Veincut Travertine

Product Specifications

Veincut Travertine

Have you ever wondered, why some stone tile has veins running through all the way and some do not. That is because, that particular stone is cut parallel to grains at the factory. Vein cut or Italian cut, leaves lines on the surface of the marble or travertine.

This unique look is very famous with travertine, since it has water lines passing inside the stone blocks at the quarry more than any other stone.

Vein cut travertine has become extremely popular lately because of the rise of rectangular tile. Instead of square travertine or marble, designers are specifying rectangular sizes like 12×24 or 16×24. Installing them broken joint or subway style is making a wall or floor more spacious and elegant. This trend lifted vein cut travertine use even further since lines look amazing in this particular design.

If you are covering a wall or a floor which is rectangular, it would be wise to use vein cut stone instead of cross -cut.Since interior designers and architects prefer bigger sizes, large format tiles like 18×36 or 24×48 are being sought after by general contractors and home owners like never before. Do not make a decision about your project before you visit our showroom or website. Rectangular fever does not look like ending anytime soon.

White marble with veins looks magnificent too. Do not settle for regular sizes and cuts of stone before you ask your stone supplier about large travertine or marble tiles in vein cut format.

The Stone refers to any material of natural origin, it is extracted from: quarries and mining operations. Natural stones such as marbles, granites, travertines, slates, quartz, etc. they are products of nature, therefore the presence of veins, variations of color and tone are characteristic of the material.

Travertine is a sedimentary rock formed in a long geological process and is composed of several elements, the main is calcium carbonate.

This type of rocks present in nature have originated millions of years ago, travertine is formed in freshwater areas, usually in riverbeds. The travertine exporting countries are: Turkey, Italy and Spain. Our travertines are mostly imported from Turkey, we also have Italian travertines and other stones of Spanish and Egyptian origin.

The tile is any stone cut to less than 3/4 “thick: 3/8” – 1/2 “- 5/8” – 3/4 “The travertine tile is designed to be installed on rigid surfaces, such as concrete floors, it is not recommended to be used on irregular / flexible surfaces, such as on sand, because this thickness will not resist loads.

The properties of the travertine are:

* The weight of the tile is approximately: 8 lb / sqf.
* The long geological process makes it a very compact, strong and resistant rock.
* As a result of the chemical processes that occur naturally in the stone, the hollow cavities that characterize it are formed.
* Travertine is resistant to low temperatures and high temperatures, therefore, travertine is an ideal coating for outdoor, because it maintains a comfortable temperature.
* One of the properties of travertine, as well as any natural stone, is that each piece is unique and unrepeatable. The color has variation but always stays in the same palette / color range. What criteria indicate good travertine tile quality?
* The four corners of the tile should be cut at 90 degrees.
* There should be no pores in the filling of the stone, apply for Filled tile.
* The filling should consist of a hard resin that does not splinter; The cement is unacceptable.
* The thickness of the tile should be measured in inches.
* The shipping boxes must be strong wooden pallets suitable for forklifts.

The range of colors of the travertine goes from the ivory / beige light, to the dark gray color, but always staying in colors contributed by the nature. The color of the travertine is originated by the formation and the geological process that the stone has had as such. Minerals such as iron present in the rock, for example, form veins in reddish colorations. The natural tones of the travertine range from soft ivory and pale white to the rich golden tones of walnut and rustic reds and deep coffee tones. Also the form or technique of cutting the block of stone, result in two apparently different stones: the common travertine we know “cloud” and the travertine “veincut”, which has veins along the stone. The travertine only takes a process of cutting and finishing but does not have any process of coloration, reason why we recommend to consider this property when designing a space with any natural stone, each piece is unique and unrepeatable but always stays in the same palette / range of colors. The colors of each tile will vary with the mottled and veins or bands of contrasting colors throughout the stone. Each stone has a unique character and style, although the stones extracted from the same area will have enough general similarity to create a beautiful floor. Each tile is uniquely designed by nature with striking patterns, cracks and distinctive veins.

The veincut cut can be observed generally in ivory travertines, according to the color of the quarry these cuts are made and so, the veincut can be admired in its entirety. This block of stone is cut perpendicular to the natural plane, which results in slabs that have a linear grain structure. This exposes the edge of the formation and gives the travertine a linear pattern. Veins are formed when there is a fracture in the stone block that has been filled with mineral material. The veincut although it is not a specific color, gives a very elegant characteristic to the stone. Its form of lines can come to stylize walls and floors, creating an optical illusion of amplitude.

The travertine tile is designed to be installed on rigid pavements, so it is usually installed as a common tile, using a mortar: tincet and mortamix. The quantities of each of them vary according to the needs of the project and the performance to which the installer works. We recommend to the client that the installer provide the quantities and brand of the product they wish to use. This step is totally personalized, since each installer has a unique way to work and install. The way in which the tile is installed depends on the measure or pattern that the client has purchased. There are many ways to install a tile, for example, a 12×24 tile (Herringbone, brick pattern, diagonal basket, among others). We always recommend that the pattern be decided, depending on the dimensions of the area, for example: installing a pattern on an outdoor floor or on a bathroom floor. The percentage of waste of approximate installation for each project is 10% and for installation of some pattern or special form is 15%. Stone Miami does not perform installation work.

Once installed, the stone must be cleaned and prepared to be sealed. A very important recommendation is that in order to keep the natural stone in good condition, it is necessary to use a sealant. The sealant is a product that prevents staining and wear of natural stone. We consider it necessary in the maintenance of the travertine. In the market there are two types of sealants for natural stone: The sealer 1) with highlighter: accentuates the colors, variations and veins of the travertine, darkens the stone a bit and gives it a little shine. 2) without highlighter, does not change the color / appearance of the stone. The choice is directly from the client, according to his taste. The choice of any of them is decisive in the look of the stone, because it will change the appearance of natural stone depending on whether one or the other treatment is applied.

Travertine is a natural material and, as such, you must take certain precautions when cleaning it. It is also necessary to avoid doing some things that can damage it, it is not a type of pavement that requires complex maintenance. You also have to be careful with the liquids spilled on the travertine, it is advisable to clean as soon as possible if it has spilled, for example, red wine to prevent the stains from penetrating.
As a general rule, we do not recommend using too strong detergents or abrasive products to clean them as this could damage the travertine irreparably. Nor should ammonia or acidic products such as vinegar be used, as they could discolor it. The best to clean it? Water with soap and in case of water pressure.
